House Deetlefs
It is said that building a house is in terms of stressfulness, only second
to death in the family. For most of the House Deetlefs project we
experienced very little stress.
We reside in Gauteng and we were shocked with the building cost in the
Southern Cape even when allowance is made for the added measures needed to
allow for the harsh weather conditions that from time to time are
experienced in this part of the world.
Clico Construction cc was highly recommended by colleagues, friends and
professionals in the construction business. We had a look at several houses
built and being built by contractors operating in Knysna. Clico’s quality
stood out. However this quality did come at a premium. We realized that
building a house from 1200 km away called for a professional and reliable
managing contractor and also on the recommendation of our architect, Tom
Joyce, appointed Clico.
Mistakes were made and problems did creep in. Clive and Paul however never
turned their back on us and always went out of their way to meet our “very
demanding” requirements. We now have a home in Knysna we are proud of and as
a couple with a large degree of functional and aesthetic professionalism,
are aware of very few flaws, which there always should be as the house is a
man made article.
Clive and Paul’s choice of some of the best sub-contractors in town and
their ability to manage the diverse group of disciplines by and large
determines Clico’s success. They do have star performing employees in Anthea
(her professionalism frequently calms you down before you even get to talk
to one of the partners), David Gordon (who ensures that every brick is laid
as a face brick), Eugene (a true tradesman who also did wonders to fix up
work performed by some of “the not so good” contractors), Raymond (young,
full of energy and a good co-ordinator, who assisted us beyond his call of
duty) and Kariem (who left some monuments and added finishing touches we
like) to mention a few.
Mention has been made of Clive and Paul’s selection of sub-contractors. In
the majority of building disciplines they were able to select the very best,
experts in their fields who delivered beyond expectation.
Special mention has to be made of Idolandt Meyer of IM Electrical and Japie
Strydom of J.J. Strydom Plumbers.
Under similar circumstances Clico will again be our managing contractor of
choice.
